by Laser Targeted Headers Team

When you visit a new town where you haven’t been before, you no doubt notice the skyline first - sort of a “calling card” for the city, yes? And when you look at the newspaper, what do you notice first? The headline, of course. And think of your favorite TV show - I bet you’re thinking of the opening credits.

We all make judgements about items based on what we first saw or noticed about them. The same is true for websites. The first thing you see when you go to a website is the header of the page.

Though it isn’t usually a functional part of the site, the header of a web page is one of the most important parts. With a porfessional and engaging looking header on a web page, visitors to that site will want to stay because they will have been assured that if the header is up to a certain level of excellence, then the content they’ll read there will be too.

While this may or may not be true, it is what the reader will assume from seeing a well designed header. This reassurance will benefit you in that the visitors to your site will not only stay to read your content during that initial visit, but will also return for future visits and hopefully recommend you to others and possibly link to you as well.

As you can see, the header does two very important things. Your visitors can get a quick idea of what kind of content your site offers, as well as giving a sort of gauge of the quality of your website overall.

Each of these functions are greatly important, but the second may be even more important than the first. There are millions of websites out there and possibly hundreds or thousands compete with yours. If the style or make-up of your header gives your website the look that it lacks quality or professionalism, your traffic will go to your competitors instead.

A well designed header featuring eye catching graphics is something which may have great impact on your websites traffic patterns. You may not even realize it, but your header can work wonders for your site.

Is it new content? New features? It might just be that well designed header which is drawing in visitors!

Affiliate marketing allows you to make money selling products you do not own. These products created by someone else in the form of software, ebooks, digital rights, etc, or some type of service are all products you do not own rights to but do have an agreement with the owner or rights holder to market for a percentage of the sale price.

The affiliate marketer simply produces a sale, gets paid, and is done. However, the product owner has to maintain all aspects of delivering the product(s) , returns, warranties, etc. Marketing products in this manner makes it possible for one to reap the benefits of owning a product without actually owning the product. Simply make a sale and get paid for it. No customer service email or contact has to be done by the affiliate marketer in any way.

Some product owners handle their own affiliate program from start to finish. In this case normally the affiliate would be given a special Id which would be used behind the main site url to track sales like www.somesite.com/?myid. In addition they would also handle the payment to the affiliate.

Perhaps a more commonly used approach these days is to use a 3rd party vendor to handle the tracking and payment to the affiliate like Click bank, or one of many others. Using a service like Click bank the affiliate gets paid automatically when a sale is made and their commission gets deposited into their PayPal account. In this method the money is available almost immediately. This is the preferred method for most affiliate marketers.

Good advice is to make sure if you are considering affiliate marketing is to select products that have a proven sales record or products that have popularity and appeal to a niche market. A good way to find out what is a good product to market is to use the search engines and select products that rank high in the results for a particular keyword.

For example: If I were considering marketing a product for ?Internet marketing? I would go to www.google.com and type in ?Internet Marketing? and review the first 5-10 results. Go to each website and find out what product they?re selling. Then I would go to www.clickbank.com and do a search for those products and signup to promote them. Doing it this way you know that if a product owner has a high ranking for a particular keyword they are really getting a lot of traffic to their site which means their product should be well branded or established.

Keep in mind it?s much easier to sell a product that your potential customer has heard of before. It?s also a good idea to only sell items that you are interested in buying. If you are trying to sell an item that you would personally never buy that?s a good indication of an item you should drop. If the item does not inspire you or you do not get excited about it then forget about it and find one that does.

If you are going to be a successful affiliate marketer you need to only promote products that you would either purchase or create yourself.James Henry is an expert internet marketer with 7 years of online marketing experience who's focus is to share his knowlege with others to allow their dreams to come true as well.

There are distractions online at every turn. Flashing signs, bright colors, and fancy words which take you off on many different directions.

But none of them take you in the direction you want to go, which is, bringing you closer to making some serious money online.

Because there is only one thing which you need to focus on, if you are ever going to make serious money online. Or any money online for that matter.

That thing is traffic.

Sure, there is more than just traffic that you need to have a grip on before you will begin to see any significant business.

But traffic, or getting visitors, is where it all begins.

There is no online money-making strategy, system, or technique which does not demand traffic in order to work.

Many people peddle their online wares, and either forget that fact, or else hope that you will forget that fact long enough for them to sell you some trinket which is utterly useless without you having some traffic first.

An old, doesn’t work anymore, total piece of crap traffic generation software, is a much wiser investment than say, some $500 marketing course. With the crappy software, at least your priorities are straight. When you purchase some expensive course, chances are great that you are just buying into the hype of some salesletter.

There is nothing in any expensive course which does not depend upon your ability to generate traffic for it’s success.

The only exception which proves the rule, would be if you purchased an expensive course which promised to show you everything there is to know about traffic generation.

Even in that case, you can most likely learn everything in that course for free by looking around.

The point is, traffic generation is the one thing you need to become an expert in.

Everything else you need to learn, you can learn by trial and error, or by testing.

Provided you have a reliable source of traffic, almost any other online sin is forgivable, or at the very least, forgotten quickly.

Stand back, I am about to throw open the curtain and let you take a peek inside.

As you may or may not be able to tell, this blog was started very recently.

The primary purpose of this blog, is to distribute information which is of interest to affiliate marketers.

The secondary, and I hope quite successful purpose, is to generate a little traffic for www.affiliatebuddha.com.

I have been searching for strategies which accomplish both of those purposes to a high standard, and I am not averse to trying out new things in an effort to determine the effectiveness of the strategy.

One of the new things I have tried, has been to use an RSS aggregator to automatically grab content from RSS feeds which are targeted to the affiliate marketing niche, and posting excerpts to the “Current News” category of this blog.

It is intended to post only an excerpt of one item of random content from each RSS feed, and then place a link to the content originator’s web page for reading the complete article or post or whatever the content may be.

So, you get a paragraph here, and a link to the person’s website if you want to read the entire piece.

Now, when searching for RSS feeds, I used Google Reader to search for feeds which showed up as results for “affiliate marketing”.

Since Google displays the complete content of each feed on their site, I made the assumption without even thinking about it, that Google was only displaying the content from feeds which allow other sites to use their content that way.

Well, I have recently had a few server issues which seem to be all resolved now, but which were causing me to question whether or not the RSS aggregator was working correctly.

When I first thought it was not working correctly, I posted a comment to a message on this blog, indicating that since I could not get the RSS feeds to work correctly, I was no longer going to use the RSS aggregator.

I had decided that instead, I would use Google Reader to stay up-to-date on all the affiliate marketing content, and I would post a few short paragraphs about each news item which strikes my fancy, with a link to the website where you can find the entire story I am commenting about.

Here is the exact comment I posted:

“I couldn’t get the RSS feeds to work out just the way I wanted, so instead of spending any more time trying to get them to work, I will just read the latest affiliate marketing news each day and post little updates letting you know about the most important stuff.”

That was until I discovered my server issues, and not wishing to let the strategy die without giving it a fair shot at working, without announcing it here, I started up the RSS aggregator again.

At this point, it appeared to work as it was supposed to.

Now, I have been under the impression for quite some time, that one way to generate a lot of traffic quickly with your blog, is to post 3 to 5 times a day for at least two weeks.

With the RSS aggregator working, at least a few of those posts each day can be automated excerpts taken from RSS feeds.

And this system was running smoothly for the past couple of days.

The RSS feed aggregator freed up enough of my time, that I have almost finished writing a book on traffic generation techniques.

And that in only two days.

This evening I checked my email just prior to going to bed. Imagine my shock and dismay when I saw an email from my blog, asking me to make a spam determination on a comment from Rosalind Gardner, she of affiliate marketing fame.

I thought I must be doing something right, if I am already attracting attention from the likes of her.

Until I read her comment:

“Rosalind Gardner
http://www.netprofitstoday.com/blog/ |

Re-posting all of the content from my blog is NOT the same as posting ‘little updates’.. it’s copyright infringement.

Rosalind Gardner”

WOW!

I certainly do not want to use her content if she does not want me to.

But to say I was a bit flummoxed is an understatement.

Google is using her content more completely than I am. I had simply assumed that she therefore wanted people to propagate her content throughout the land.

Anyway, I immediately complied with her wishes. Or I will as soon as I have posted this.

I am slightly bothered by the fact that she did not email me, but perhaps she could not find an email address for me.

So posting a public comment is certainly one way of getting my attention.

The other thing that bothers me, is that the tone of her comment seems to assume that I am stealing her content on purpose, with malice aforethought.

Maybe she has just been burned too many times before, it’s easier for her to assume the worst.

I don’t know, and I doubt I ever will.

It would have been nice if she had at least asked for an explanation first. If she had, I would have told her exactly what I have written here.

Anyway, I offer this as a lesson.

Never assume that content which is being freely distributed in a public forum, is actually acceptable for you to use for any purpose.

I have turned off the RSS aggregator for good, in order to avoid similar potential misunderstandings in the future.

And, I will be removing all of the content belonging to Rosalind Gardner which is currently on the blog.

However, I will not be removing anybody else’s content unless they ask. I will for the time being assume that Google was using other people’s content acceptably.

I just will not be adding any more content that was written by anybody else, unless it is a brief passage quoted for purposes of review.

Needless to say, I am a reasonable guy who is trying to do the right thing.

I am sorry that Rosalind Gardner does not know me well enough to believe otherwise.

In fact, her comment kind of rubbed me the wrong way.

So, even though I am complying with her wishes completely, I still had to be a smart-ass about it.

I guess that’s just my nature.

I’ll leave you with the email I sent to Rosalind Gardner in response to her comment.

“Rosalind,
I apologize for using your blog content without permission.

I assumed that it would be permissible, due to the fact that I found the RSS feed to your blog through Google Reader, and I mistakenly believed that if Google is displaying your content in total, my posting of excerpts with links back to your blog, would certainly not be frowned upon.

While I am not entirely convinced that your claims of “copyright infringement” would stand up to very close scrutiny, I assume that you mentioned it because you want me to stop using your content on my blog?

Since you took the time to write a comment to me, to notify me of the situation, I am sure that if you wanted me to discontinue the use of your content, it would have been a simple matter for you to type in the words “please stop using my content”.

Instead, you used the comment space on my blog to offer me your opinion on the nature of copyright infringement, and inform me that re-posting all the content from your blog is not the same as posting little updates, in your opinion.

Regardless, I will make an intuitive leap of faith that, though unexpressed, you actually meant to write something indicating that you are opposed to my using your blog content on my blog.

Because of that, and that alone, I will be removing all of your content from my blog, and I will not be using any of your content on my blog in the future.

I respond vigorously to polite requests made in the face of honest mistakes. I do not require, nor do I appreciate, subtle, veiled threats of legal action.

However, I would suggest that you contact Google immediately, and warn them that they are using your blog content in a manner contrary to your wishes.

If I were you, I would do no less than demand a full removal of all your content not only from the Google Reader, but also demand a full and complete removal from the Google search results of any and all content which belongs to you.

To do anything less runs the risk of some future naive blogger, accidentally using your content without permission.

I am glad I could be of service.

If you have any questions or concerns in the future, feel free to email me, and I will respond as soon as I can.

Sincerely,
Calvin Brown
